For this 8th edition of the national competition MT180, the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and the Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) have joined forces to organize the local final "Grenoble Alpes Savoie Mont Blanc", with the CNRS Alpes and partners.
During this exceptional evening, followed by nearly 700 viewers live on YouTube and seen more than 10,000 times since the live stream, 16 PhD students from UGA and USMB presented their thesis in 180 seconds and not one more. The challenge was great this year, since the performance had to be done remotely, each candidate being filmed in live video conference from his or her home.
The PhD students put on a show
Coached by Ludovic Lecordier, trainer for the oral communication organization Spontanez-vous, for several weeks to prepare their presentations, the PhD students put on a show during this evening. To the delight of Internet users, they popularized their research work using humor and self-mockery, surprising metaphors and incongruous comparisons. But as funny and captivating as their presentations were, the scientific content was there.They gave an astonishing overview of the themes and the excellence of the research carried out in the laboratories represented.
The 3 winners of the Alps Final
Clara Aimar is a PhD student at the 3SR laboratory (CNRS / UGA - Grenoble INP-UGA) under a Cifre contract at Decathlon and is attached to the IMEP2 doctoral school. Her thesis, entitled "Characterization and modeling of the mechanical behavior of polymer foams: 3D morphology and multiaxial fatigue", she manages to explain it as clearly as a child's game in three minutes thanks to a culinary metaphor!Maxime Leprince, a PhD student at the CERMAV laboratory (CNRS) and CEA-Leti, which is part of the CSV doctoral school, also won over the jury and the public. He won the jury's second prize, which opens the door to the national semi-final on April 1, alongside Clara, as well as the Internet users' prize. We have no doubt that he will also convince the jury of the national edition with his thesis topic "Development of conductive and resorbable inks and hydrogels for the stimulation and monitoring of biological tissues", which he presents to us in the form of a very appetizing recipe.
Claudia Teran Escobar, a PhD student at the SENS (UGA) and PACTE (CNRS / UGA - Sciences Po Grenoble-UGA) laboratories and a member of the ISCE doctoral school, was also commended by the members of the jury, who awarded her the 3rd prize for her thesis "InterMob: from understanding the obstacles and levers of active and sustainable mobility to the development of a behavioral intervention protocol targeting mobility change".
